Retired local news legend Don Shelby recently made an appearance in the latest issue of Midwest Home magazine. Although Shelby usually reports the news, this time he made the news by building an eco-friendly home in Excelsior, MN, complete with a rainwater catching system, geothermal heating and cooling, photovoltaic solar power and greywater recycling system.
After reporting on many environmental stories throughout his career, Shelby is outspoken about improving the environment through change. With his background, it is no surprise that Shelby’s built a home that achieved a LEED Platinum rating from the US Green Building Council, a Gold rating from Minnesota GreenStar and a “Master Certification” rating from Minnesota’s Green Path, given out by the Builders Association of the Twin Cities.
